More about the "ADVANCE" Training Conference |

More than that, the term "advance" reflects the desire of Duane and Mary Laflin to do something to advance the realm of Gospel Magic by helping performers improve on the personal level and by providing the best equipment and teaching materials possible.
What is the conference schedule? It starts on Thursday evening with a party atmosphere that includes performances and funny business. The displays will be open at this time so you can look over the props and resources available. Friday morning the training begins. We know this conference will be different from any other Gospel Magic conference to ever happen because of the planned study program. The daily schedule will follow the general outline of a gospel magic show. This means the first session will deal with "OPENERS" (how to get your show started). The second session will deal with "DISCLAIMERS" (how to explain the difference between magic tricks and the supernatural). By the time the conference is complete the sessions will also have covered "AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION", "MAIN MESSAGE TRICKS", "SALVATION AND INVITATION ROUTINES", and "CLOSERS". To keep thing interesting and add even more helpful information the daily schedule will also feature "INFORMATION BURSTS". These bursts will be fun and educational. The teacher or teachers will try to give you as much practical information on a particular subject as they can... in a short time. (The bursts are only 25 minutes long). INFORMATION BURSTS include Keeping Your Heart Right, Costuming Tips, Developing A Message Format, Using Music, Getting Shows, and Working With An Assistant. Friday evening we will go to the "Magic Beyond Belief" show and stay after for pictures and an interview with Terry Evanswood. Saturday evening we will have a party and three thirty minute Gospel variety shows! |

CAN A CHRISTIAN BE A STAR?" 11:30 - 12:30 - Session #2 "DISCLAIMERS" (How to explain the difference between magic tricks and the supernatural. Tricks and routines for this purpose.) 12:30 - 1:45 - Lunch 1:45 - 2:10 - Information Burst "COSTUMING TIPS" 2:15 - 3:45 - Session #3 "AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION" (How to deal with audience members. Favorite tricks and routines involving volunteers.) 3:45 - 4:15 - Break 4:15 - 4:40 - Information Burst "DEVELOPING A MESSAGE FORMAT" 4:45 - 5:30 - Session #4 "MAIN MESSAGE TRICKS PART ONE" (About message tricks. Routines and effects.) 5:30 - 6:00 - Questions, Answers, Clarifications 6:00 - 8:00 - Supper and get ready for "MAGIC BEYOND BELIEF" show. After show - Interview and pictures with Terry Evanswood and cast of show on site at the theater.
Saturday, February 21 "ADVANCE" 8:00 AM - Doors open. Fellowship. Displays. 8:45 AM - Welcome 9:00 - 10:30 - Session #5 "MAIN MESSAGE TRICKS PART TWO" (More solid message tricks and routines.) 10:30 - 11:00 - Break 11:00 - 11:25 - Information Burst "PUTTING MUSIC INTO YOUR SHOW" 11:30 - 12:30 - Session #6 "SALVATION AND INVITATION ROUTINES" (How to specifically give the gospel through a magic effect and challenge people to respond.) 12:30 - 1:45 - Lunch 1:45 - 2:10 - Information Burst "WORKING WITH AN ASSISTANT" 2:15 - 3:45 - Session #7 "CLOSERS" (How to finish your show on a high note. Effects and routines that work well for this.) 3:45 - 4:15 - Break 4:15 - 4:40 - Information Burst "GETTING SHOWS" 4:45 - 5:30 - Session #8 "PLAYING BIG" (How to perform so even those in the back row can appreciate what you are doing!) 5:30 - 7:00 - Supper Break 7:00 - 10:00 - PARTY AND THREE SHOWS! (Party atmosphere spaced between three thirty minute variety shows.)
Conference ends at 10:00 PM Saturday evening.
